I honestly don't think so. I remember hearing about this a while ago but it turned out to be a myth i think. As far as i have ever heard ALL LT-1 motors came with Powdered metal rods and Hypereutectic (sp?) pistons.

I'm looking at my "How to Rebuild LT1/LT4 engines" it lists 92-93 LT1s as having forged rods and 94+ LT1 and LT4 engines have PM rods. Take it for what its worth.

I liked the94 model year just because that was the year before gm starting detuning their motors, i had a 95 and it ran good, but everytime i raced my buddies 94 he would eat me alive, and they were both stock except i had true duals with bullets, other than that they were pretty much stock.

your car must not of been tuned up or the other guy was a better driver. Gm didn't start detuning them after 94. In 1996 the hp level went up on them.

Yet another vote for the 95 model year. Ive had a 94 and 95 and now have a 97 and the 95 by far was the strongest car stock. In fact just bout every 95 I've been in seems to run good like they're all "factory freaks"

Forged doesnt mean they are stronger. The PM rods are quite a bit stronger from what people say and from GM they are even rated for more hp.

Re: best year for lt1

well thanks for all the opinions, i found a black 95 with hardtop just like my 93 it's completely stock i am the third owner and it only has 67000 miles, it's a m6 and it runs excellent. i already ordered some hooker lt and some other bolt ons, by the way i only paid 5200 cash i think it was a sweet deal, i will post pictures after the detail that will be done tomorrow.

thanks again!

Re: best year for lt1

alot will say 94-95 because there was no obd2, and they were single cat and maf...I had a 97 (96 also)and never had any problems w/ the obd11...I liked the newer interior, drl's, and the chrome 5 stars as opposed to shooters...performance wise all years perform the same...even the 93 speed density cars.

Re: best year for lt1

95 is the best for modding. OBD-1, single cat, vented opti. My brother has a 97 TA, and putting a catback on that thing is becoming a chore for him because he doesn't know if he needs o2 sims or if he needs to delete the cats or not. BTW, o2 sims are more expensive than regular o2 sensors
