Re: Best Timing Chain

Unless you swap to the 95+ opti setup you are pretty much stuck with the stock chain. I believe Comp supposedly has a chain for 92-94 guys but i believe its about $500.

Yea but I thought also what limits me from changing to a 95+ setup is the crank and gear that comes with it in the timing chain set. I'm doing a motor swap on a 3rd gen so going to newer opti wouldn't be hard but what about the crank gear issue?

Re: Best Timing Chain

What im trying to say is are the camshaft/crankshaft sprockets the same on a 95+ timing chain kit and a 92-93. Also what all do i need to do to convert to 95+ opti setup? So basically it would be nice not to have to pay $500 for a damn timing chain. The block and crank or a '92 corvette

crank sprocket, if the chain is the same, its the same

cam sprocket is where the difference is, 92-94 has a same center hole, which is splined(opti drive), 95-97 has a large center hole(opti driven by a extended cam dowel)

there is a page with a list of parts needed to convert, but here is the jist of it

vented opti(95-97)
vented opti timing cover(95-97, 95 commonly perfered)
vented opti electrical harness($36 from casper)
vented opti vacumn harness
95-97 camshaft
95-97 timing set(a aftermarket double roller will work, if you run a ewp, and with some slight clearancing of the timing cover)

Re: Best Timing Chain

do you plan on using the hole wiring harness off the vette? most people that do a swap go carbed and run a regualr Dis and dont need the opti up front, then you can put an electric water pump on there and run a true double roller, I swapped my opti to the vented set up and got an electric pump and put a cloyes double roller in there, the vented opti is a much better set up, all you need is opti itself, timing cover, wire harness, vaccum harness, and the timing chain, you best off going with a electric WP so you can run a true roller chain, there a lot better and have a lot less slack than the normal LT1 chain does, they make a over sized cam gear for it to take up the slack but those gears get expensive.

Re: Best Timing Chain

I going to run a 95 computer and harness off a Z28. Also I have a LE2 Package that going on the car with the custom grind cam. I looked up the part number on summit racing http://store.summitracing.com/partde...&view=32&N=115 and it says application 93-97. Does that mean that I can choose to go to vented opti (95-97) and get a double roller with a electric pump? Also would it be worth it to convert to a LTCC or LS1 coil pack system.
