Best speed for best MPG in 6spd?

Hey guys im going to be making my 1,211 mile trip down to Daytona Beach FL from the northwest Chicago suburbs. I drive I have done plenty of time to and from college. Anyway I was wondering what the best speed is for the best possible gas milege in a 6spd 97 Z28 with long tubes and stock gears. let me know what you guys have found to be the best.
Thanks,
JT

I can't ever stay off the throttle long enough to get excellent mileage but it seems like I once tried driving 65-70 on the freeway in 6th for 150 miles with the cruise on and estimated I was getting 28-30 (stock 3.42 rear and motor revving around 2k IIRC). I have heard many others make similar estimates.

26.2 MPG @ 2,000 rpm, 80 mph. 3.42. Reminder--one eye in the mirror.

I think about 2K RPM would be perfect.

Same here. The average seems to be about 27 or better. Really depends on how much you stop like any eating or stopping for rest areas. I know I got 440 or something close miles on a full tank before I filled up again. That was with stopping at maybe a rest stop and restraunt.

On a trip to Florida I averaged 27mpg and got slightly better mileage when I got out of the mountains of Tennessee and into the flat lands of Georgia. I kept the cruise set between 75-80 mph

Its pretty amazing considering the power and performance of our cars. And to think that some so called "economy cars" can't get that kind of mileage on the highway.
