I know but what kind of timing chain are you running? If you say stock, then i'd saying you are running risky parts. Also the guy i was referring to is running a 230/236 so the parts aren't probably gonna be as cheap.

I purchased a factory replacement because I didn't have the time or money to swap to a vented opti for the extreme duty timing chain. I got mixed reviews for the lunati factory replacement, and a decent ammount of people said a factory replacement isn't a bad option. I don't have huge plans for this car, it is still a daily driver.

I understand what you're saying though. I am a firm believer in "Do it once Do it right."

do the hot cam kit shoot up to about 315-330rwhp but you will spend more than the 500 dollars the kit cost, plus if you can't do the install yourself that will cost you some big bucks. if not i would go with some gears and the computer tune which would be good for the gear change. get some 373's i know people will say 411's but i love my 373 gears in my 6 speed. and don't worry about the rear i have nearly 400rwhp on my stock 10 bolt with 373 gears.have fun

Re: Best performance upgrade with strict budget!

So prices I think were:
$40 -new stock timing chain/gears from friend
$100 - 1.6 rockers (used)
$110- CC612 valve springs (only thing went cheap on and now I've got valvefloat ) If you go with a smaller cam, you can get away with using these.
$25- Hardened pushrods
$240- Cam
Total is $525, then gaskets, oil, etc were extra.

Unless you got an LT4 chain then i'd consider that cutting corners and yeah those combo springs won't do it either.
