Best mod(s) ( no forced induction) for $1000

I have around 1000 dollars to spend and I own a 93 trans am, I don't wanna buy rims cause I like mine, so I was thinking about an exhaust kit, comp chip, and just regular bolt ons or drop in mods? any ideas?

I got tons...

Depends if u want speed or handling or what.....

The best and most noticeable mods i ever did where

1. LS1 brakes ($300 for everything to make it work)
2. 32mm sway bar (cant imagine a 35 but not as good for launching/weight transfer so i went with 32) ($60)
3. Jet hot Long tube headers. Revs faster, pulls noticebly harder, easy plug access, shaved 30lbs?? or so off the car cuz that and the ypipe were lighter. ($700)
4. Bilstein HD shocks 300 bucks. wow

for 3. to work well need to have a catback too (suggest hooker if your on a budget)

horsepower stuff u spend a lot of money to have barely noticeble gains... but the handling and braking stuff you can really feel.

Should get a cold air induction if you dont already have one.. Try and pick one up used... 100 bucks... 180 new.

Are you going to install the parts yourself? I would do the following mods:

-CAI
-Catback exhaust
-Headers.

I would go with a CIA, headers and catback if you're doing the work.

When you guys suggest headers, you should also mention all the tiny stuff that goes along with installing headers. You'll probably spend more than $1000 on a header install(doing it your self even) if you do a basic tune up.

Hooker LTs, Taylor OTV kit, NGK TR55s, gaskets, bolts, Hooker Y-pipe and O2 Extensions all cost me about $1150 after shipping and what not. I'd look into getting a stall converter, shift kit, and tranny cooler if you have an auto. That can be done for a grand and under.

First, welcome to the board.

Second, if you're all stock, then for $1000, your best gains will be seen via a Cold Air Induction, and a Cat-Back system, and headers if money allows. There's no point in putting headers on a car with a stock catback system that will choke off any gains. Unless you throw a cutout on it.

CAI will run you about $150-200

Cat-Back - $250-600 depending on brand and material.

Headers - $400-700 again depending on brand and material.

Do some searching, watch ebay, keep an eye on the for sale forum.

Third: if you have a chance, check out the speed density forum link in my sig, it's for 93 Camaro's and Firebirds, since we're unique.

I did the dheapie Edelbrock 1 5/8 headers and immediatly picked up mph at the track, mpg on the street, and lowered my ET by a couple of tenths. The cat back didn't do anything to help in terms of performance. Long tubes are not necessary on a stock vehicle unless you are going to go really wild with modifications. I didn't have mine coated and they looked like crap very shortly but I kept them three years and never had any problems with them. I gave them away when I upgraded to long tubes for my stroker short block.

A short throw shifter was great for my stick.

Cold air induction. It really doesn't matter what brand was also a good bang for the buck.

I don't know how well the chips for the 93's work, perhaps someone else can answer that question for you.

If you go to the track, drag radials are a great thing to have. A line lock is also a wonderful thing.

high stall---3200? good one for 300-600 bucks

4.10 gears = 100 bucks + install 160bucks= $260

shift kit = 60 bucks

tranny cooler= 50 bucks

drag radials = 300 bucks

put ya a few bucks over 1k and you could see at LEAST mid 13's out of a stock lt1 (no motor mods at all)

oh and control arms are good too

thats what i would do.....get that thing as fast as you can without touching the motor...then once you do the bolts ons, youll be setup for it.

look for deals and you can install everything cept the gears prolly...unless you know gears then you saved money for one drag radial.

Unless you do headers, save your money on the chip. it's not worth it until you get headers. Just my opinion. Another thing to consider would be an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, as you're a 93 and you won't have the PCM compensating for the pressure changes. Of course, you'll need to either track test or dyno each pressure change.

I agree 100%. I picked up 10 rwhp and 17 rwtq with an AFPR.

USED headers. Ain't nothing wrong with them if they are in fine condition.

USED CAI. Same as above.

NEW stall.

Exhaust. Whichever setup you want, just go for it.

Bargain modding works great if you can find quality parts. I got my K&N FIPK for 100 bucks and my SLP Jet-Hot coated shorties for $250! You can't beat $350 for headers and CAI.

Was that a bump or a drop in pressure??? Nice gain.

Just curious, are you over on the speed density board???
