Heads are like anything else. You get what you pay for. Sure you can get better heads for more money, but then you can also get worse ones.

I don't race my car, but I'm sure if I did there'd be more than a few LS1s wondering how that old LT1 beat them.

dyno numbers are the solid variable to judge heads by...........the heads either make the power, or they dont.

track numbers are of course relative, but seeing a car throw down good MPH is indicative of the power being made.

Phil - Last I knew, you weren't really doing any of the actual port work. Has that changed?

Track is where the proving ground is at.
Seen to many cars dynoed more than me and run less or equal MPH than me.

due to :

weight
temp
humidty
track prep
elevation
driver
etc
etc
etc

just too many variables

on a dyno, there is only elevation, and temp, which can both be adjusted for.
no driver or prep issues.

While I certainly do pay attention to terminal 1/4 speed, I don't see why anyone would take something like that over a more direct/consistent quantitative analysis of what kind of power the engine is producing itself.. Since thats exactly what you're trying to improve when you get into this stuff I'd think...

This isn't a bag on Lloyd Elliot is it? I haven't seen anything but good things about his heads, and humilty/respect on his part...

Did i mention any names? You're the one who considered their stuff matched the example I just gave, not me.

It's something Ive noticed from alot of people who claim high flow #'s, but consistently dyno like guys did 3-4yrs ago with 25Xcfm peak stuff. I've had stuff from quite a few people who cater to you guys show up at one time or another, and it's... interesting at times. I even recall being sent #'s for a set of heads via email from a company months ago... but little did that company know, the customer those were going to, was an acquaintance of mine.. and they had their stuff gone through when they recieved it. The result? 283 claimed... 25X as tested.

Is it so hard to believe that regardless of how good a company's customer service is, they may be bending the truth a little because all internet customers seem to want to do is tout flow #'s?

Dunno, draw your own conclusions I suppose, but I've learned to ignore the flow #'s & stick with actual dyno results if at all possible. Of course even then you run into issues once in awhile with tuning etc., but its still going to be the most accurate way to gauge performance for most people .

I'm going to throw another name out here.....

Joe Prince

I have his heads and the 224/230, and dynoed 375/363 with a PHAT torque curve. I don't have track numbers yet because I got deployed while we were tuning in the car, but I'm expecting low 12's easily in street trim.

Dyno Chart

His work is outstanding, and the numbers show. I don't have long tubes, and am running a cat. For now.....
