Best header gasket w/ hooks on the end???

Just like the subject says. These Felpro 1406's are not working out for me I need some metal gaskets. However, I need some with hooked ends so I don't have to remove the header completely because it was a major PITA to get them lined up and would be even worse with a header gasket to hold in place too.

I would recommend Percy's Deadsoft Aluminum header gaskets. They are reusable and will never blow out. They are like 40 bucks though. I think you will have to pull the header loose to scrape all the old gasket off the head.

There is no old gasket material the gasket comes out leaving no traces... maybe because I used RTV on both sides. Those Percy's look like they will seal up nicely. Did you use RTV or just stick em in how they are???

well, the BEST header gaskets don't have the hooks, but they are the BEST at sealing and torquing...

Earl's aluminum, with the graphite composite inserts... maybe by Parker-Hannifin (THE SEAL COMPANY)

I tried those and could not get them to line up and put the bolt in. The fit was ****ty too and I had to cut them because they were not D-port anyway. So far it seems as if I'm going to have to get Percy's...

Copper From Summit

I put the Copper gaskets from Summit on my headers, and have removed the headers twice since then, and the gasket is still good after 6 months and two remove and replace episodes. I urge you to tighten your headers once a month for first 3 months as I lost on of my header bolts being complacent and not checking. Also use quality gaskets at the header collectors too. My Car ran like crap with a leaky collector gasket. It was a $1:50 mr.Gasket paper from Auto Zone, and it turned to shreds and blew out in short order.

I used Percy's gaskets. They are really nice and went it without any problems. Now as far as sealing goes, I have no idea yet since I haven't started the car. I'll let you know very soon.

Sup Ion. I was just in my "office" finishing up the valvetrain on my install. Let me know how those gaskets worked out! Oh and I ended up getting real Comp R lifters with the CC875 printed on them Score!

I used a set of the Mr. Gasket copper gaskets. Have you tried those new locking header bolts? Not the stage 8 bolts with the clips, those fall off. These new bolts have a small hex screw that you tighten to spread the bolt inside the hole kinda like the poly lock rocker nuts. They lock and don't back out. I'll find out exactly who makes them and post a reply, but I'm going to get a set when I have a spare $60 dollars. Definately getting a set for my TT GTA when it's ready.

Wow they make header bolts like that!!! Please inform me!! I'm using those stupid Stage 8's... They are way too short IMO and I don't even use the locks as it would take way too long to get them on. I'm always checking to make sure all the bolts are torqued and it's a PITA. I'd definitely be interested in a set of thsoe...

All the dead soft ones are great. if you arent going to be pulling your headers often they are kinda spendy. I went with good ol' felpros with ultra copper and stage 8 bolts and have never never never had a leak.

honestly, I haven't had any problems whatsoever with my fel-pro 1406's. If yours are blowing out, you have one of two problems: 1. your sealing surfaces aren't straight (heads or headers) or 2. you didn't retighten the fasteners consistantly. When I installed mine, I went for a 10 minute drive, retightened the bolts. Drove for 2 hours, retightened the bolts. I then checked them every day until they stopped loosening, then once a week for about 2 months. Its a pain, but I haven't had to mess with it since, and I have yet to blow out the original gaskets in there. I still check the bolts every month or so for piece of mind, but they don't loosen anymore.
