First off welcome to the board! With your car being an A4 you probably already have either 2.73 or 3.23's. If you have 2.73's (as I do ) any 3 series gear is going to make a big difference. I'm personally going with 3.42's in my car because I'd like to maintain a little of my current gas mileage but want some performance! A lot of people say 3.73's are the highest A4's should go, although other have went with 4.10's and love them. It's all up to you!

3.23's & 3.42's= decent performance and good mpg
3.73's= better performance, traction issues, and decent mpg
4.10's= performance, traction issues, and mpg!

BTW, you will also need a series 3 carrier if you are going from a 2.73 to any 3.** series ratio!

Hope this helps!

Later,

Mike

PS. Run a search about gears and I'm sure you will find many opinions on what works best with different set-ups! Good luck!

I ran 3.73s with a lightly modded LT1 (CAI, catback, shiftkit)
and traction was a big issue.
If I mashed the throttle from a dead stop it would not hook up till about the middle of second gear. They work great and I think you would love em but you will probably need to address the traction problems you will run into.

Amen for the Traction problem. My 95 almost stocker A4 Lites up the tires from a dead stop and I have the the 2.73s gears.

I will work the traction part even before I change my gears.

Oh did I forget to tell you I live in Hawaii and the Weather is hot and almost humid? I can only imagine what cold weather.. cold pavement.. and 4.** gears driving could be.

Work your traction first so when you get to the gears you will enjoy the driving as opossed to the sliding.
