Best fitting shorty headers for 97 LT1

I am looking to install a set of shorty headers on my 97 SS. I want a set that fits well, with little or no modifications. Any suggestions.

I think Mac has the best banger 4 Bucker headers when it comes to shorties....

Then there's others like BBK .... but I don't think they come with the Y-pipe .....

They all have thier fitment issues... I went with Edelbrocks... becuase I got them for dirt cheap new and thought they be less of a headache... they Come in and out easy, and leave plenty of room ... but plug changers are hard to do. The PAssengerside is a wee but tight, but as far as the Driverside forget about it... I just take the entire header off and toggle with the plugs that way... real easy to do. Takes half an hour.

Anyway.. as far as shorties go I think MAC is the winner ... check them out. There's allot about them if you do the search.

I run the 93 style SLP's on my 97, They are more like mid-length's, Nothing like the 96-97 style...

Might wanna look into it if you can delete out your EGR and AIR...

Things you'd need :

93 style SLP headers + Y-pipe

S-pipe to fit up your current catback to the y-pipe OR buy a 93-95 style catback if you dont already have a catback...

Header bolts (1 inch) I got away with 3/4inch But to do it again I'd use 1 inch...

EGR block off plates..

O2 sims for the rear o2's and extensions for the front o2's

Its an easy route to go, but most say if your doing this why not go long tubes???

Maybe MACs go in easier, but the primary tube diameter is 1 5/8" vs. 1 3/4" on the SLPs. Also, the SLPs are stainless. So my 2 cents is for the SLPs.

If you want to keep emissions, then my vote is for the SLP headers. Mainly because they have 1 3/4" primaries.
Mine work well, I have to "double up" the l/h collector gasket
for a small leak.

My vote goes for the MAC's, and it might sound weird, but I prefer 1 5/8" primaries. I like the better low end TQ that you get from them vs 1 3/4" primaries, and I think you need a lot of rwhp before you see the gain from 1 3/4" primaries.

They are actually similar to the Arizona Speed and Marine headers. AS&M's are actually mid-length headers as Macs are too. Now I know that AS&M used to make a header for the '96 and '97 cars but as far as I know, they stopped making them.

i have a set of edelbrock headers and they make great power. the plug access is not the greatest but the headers plus hypertech programming gave me 30 rwhp and they are easy to install.
i am actually selling my exhaust if you are interested.

Ya but the SLPs cost $150-200 more to top it off.
