I have some BF Goodrich 255/50/16s on my salad shooters. They work great!! One of the best mods I've done so far, if tires can be considered a mod.

nittos are good, but bf's have a softer compound its more of a "drag" racing radial

What is goin to hook better. Those 16" Nittos or some 17" 285 Firestone Firehawks. Reason i ask is. I have a set of 17x11 rear, 17x9 front Boyd tires on the car. I am about to put some firehawk 285 on the rear. I drive alot and can't afford to run Nitto's on it all the time. But i have the salad shooters to. With brand new Goodyear tires. Thinking of putting Nittos' on the 16" rim. But if the 17x11 hooks better then i will leave it.

This will be on a 383 at nearly 400rwhp if not more. Will be finishing tune and dyno within the month.

Later,
Jomo

ram air camaro - the 255/50/16 BFG DR will probably work well for you. If you're more concerned with tire life, then get the 245/50/16 Nitto DR. Compound is not as soft as the BFG, but you'll have full tread depth, and the tire will last a lot longer.

jomo_eng - it's doubtful that you'll hook a 383 to well with a drag radial, much less a non dr radial. Yea it can be done with the right suspension, but you'd be much better off, just throwing a set of ET streets or QTPs (or a set or dedicated slicks) on your spare salad shooters.

Updated Mods to current setup. OK looks like ETs will be the way to go. Don't want dedicated slicks because i may use on street from time to time. And with the 10-bolt i am affraid of using slicks on track. Although Mike Hoffman is running 10's with his 10-bolt A4. http://www.futralmotorsports.com/mike_hoffpauir.htm
But i think he has a freak to do that. Hope Allan can get my 10-bolt to hold like Mike's

later,
Jomo

If you use the tires for a all around , going everywhere including track, I would do the nittos. I have them in 275/50/15 on my welds for around town, and 315/35/17 on a set i use dual purpose as well... I like them all around due to hooking good on the street and decently on the strip.

I used a set of close to bald 245/50/16 nitto drag radials for the track for about a year, and they hooked great, I never had any complaints.

I used my buddys 315/35/17 BFG drag radials at the track ( i had them mounted up on some of my 17x11's when i used them for track only ) and they hooked AWESOME definitely better then the nittos, in long run.

Only drawback is the bfg's suck in the rain, the nittos are awesome in the rain. Hope it helps.

My 2 cents -
Nittos = good all purpose use
bfgs = great track tire

Yes, if you use them at all outside the track, buy the Nittos. I use 'em.

For your salad shooters you can get the 10.5x16 ET Streets. They fit fine, just make sure they pop into the rim bed when you mount them.
ET Streets über alles

I ran the 11.5 x 16 x 26" ET streets on my salad shooters for about a year. They were my daily drivers to work (not recommended) and I went to the track on'm about 4 times. They wore very evenly at 18-20psi and left a nice solid contact patch (on the occasions when I got them to spin )
