best cam for my application?

within the next year i plan to do alot of the simple bolt-ons (intake, muffler and cutout, shift kit, trans cooler,etc...) but is it ok to put a cc306 cam kit in my stock motor and have it tuned by pcmforless?, or is that cam too much for stock valvetrain? i just want a cam for now im still debating on if i wanna build up a 396 or not cause i think im gonna stay N/A...if cc306 is too much what is the biggest cam i can get with a stock motor?

I think you should go down to the CC305, when you rebuild then buy a bigger cam. The CC306 is going to be to large.

I agree, I think that the CC306 is too big. Possibly consider the LT4 HOT CAM. I just ordered it for mine. It is also a great bargain.

305, 502, or hotcam kit and some headers and you will see some improvement over your power band

The 305 is a little bigger then the hotcam, but since the LSA is different, the hotcam's powerband is a little lower then the 305. Anyone, please correct me if i'm wrong.

xxsaint69 put a 306 in his stock headed car. He has no tuning, from what I've read, and is having some issues, so I would agree with the others on here and get the smaller 305.

Yep the cc306 is too large for stock heads, that cam is made to flow some good amount of air, if you plan on getting some heads as well then plan on getting that cam, or maybe a custom grind to your specs. I would recommend the lt4 'hotcam' kit , its cheap and gives just enough power to make you feel the incrase, and gives you power through out you entire power band, the cc305 is a good cam as well. the cc306 has a high power band, my friend has it in his very modified 97 ss, we've done a lot of work to that car, and the cam is a great cam but he has heads, intake, and nitrous which i'm not too fond of saying, the setup is mismatched for nitrous. but on motor right now as it stands its a beast, once its tuned it will be insane... on bottle i dont even want to think.. he's a lucky biotch..

But my final answer is the hotcam kit, or the cc305 with both you can use 1.6 RR's safely and tune much easier then the cc306. hope that helps.. trust me i've looked into the same thing i almost went hte cc306 route myself, but i dont have heads yet, and i dont plan on running a set of heads until i rebuilt the motor and the hotcam is made to run with lt4 heads which arent much different then th lt1 heads. its a nice cam, and has a nice lobe to it, the 305 is slightly stronger lobe, and the 306's lobe is just sick...

You all are nuts. 306 is awesome for stock heads. Im running a cam even bigger than that on stock heads.

No one answered your question about the springs. You must change the springs.Stock springs will bind at .490 lift on the exhaust, slightly less on the intake.
