best Cam and Head combination

New to the forum and to Camaro's. Just bought a 1994 z28 and put a cold air intake on it with hooker headers and SLP Loud Mouth Catback. I want to do heads and a cam next and I was wondering what everyone had the most luck with. I was trying to do some research and find some stuff out but like i said i'm still new to this stuff and a lot of it is a foreign language. It's my daily driver most of the time, i also have a Jeep for winter/other daily driver. I was thinking about sending my heads to have them ported and polished then getting a cam based on that setup. However, i'm not opposed to getting new heads either. Any suggestions or a place to start researching?

Almost all the H/C packages come with a custom cam designed to how you want to drive the heads are also done like that. Most people on here run LE packages eportworks.com check some of those LE1-le2 would be what your lucking for.

Oh boy sometimes these don't end well.

But as already suggested, check out AI, Precision Porting, TEA, Lloyd, Port Pros etc. The heads and cam are the cheap part. The supporting mods and OH BUY the ways are what drive up the costs.

Is your car a manual or auto?

If auto you're going to need a higher stall in order to use a big hairy man's cam on the street.
As for supporting mods Lloyd and Phil will let you know what works with their packages.
But usually your talking free flowing exhaust(LT headers), free flowing intake(CAI) bigger injectors a stall if you have an auto, gears for M6 or A4 (when you get into the higher HP packages)

Remember as the performance level climbs the price increases exponentially.

Plan on spending double what you think you will (or get quoted by the internet sages that say hey for $1.5K you can do a XXX head cam package) because you're going to have that much into necessary parts and mods ie valvetrain, injectors, gaskets, exhaust and the oh buy the ways.

Yes, some have done it on the cheap, however, most of the really low budget cost saving projects end up being a redneck lawn planter, when some budget piece lets go taking out your expensive parts.

If you're serious and you've got around $4K pick a shop or two and call them.

If you don't have $4K; start with the supporting mods, headers, exhaust good 1.6 rockers etc and start saving your $$$$$$$.......or you could buy a Nitrous kit and play for less coin.

I have about 2000 maybe 3000 to spend. I obviously want something that will make me move but I have to do something practical to since its gonna be my daily driver. I want lower end HP and rather not to to many more upgrades besides the cam and heads, tune etc. Does anyone have a nice setup they are running now that they use for their daily driver? If so, did you port and polish the heads you have now or get new ones? What kind of rwhp are you getting?
