Best CAI?

I am switching from a blower to an N/A setup. Which is better, a factory ram air or the cai like K&n, SLP, Moroso.....or can an ls1 lid be made to work on an lt1 with a ramair hood? Your opinions please.

If you have the room and patients, it can be made, if not then if you want looks go with the slp, if you want performance go with the moroso. This is just my opinion, let me stress. Everyone likes something different and thinks something else is better. I personally think if you can do the ram air, that would definitly give u the best hp, it will just be a little tougher thats all.

if your TA has a ram air hood then i would go with a ram air set up. if not just get the cheapest cai you can find short of the G2.

Where is the best place to find a true ram air set up and what can I expect to pay?

im disappointed in my K&N. when i got into my accident, my filter came off, my god, what a bitch to put it back on. Im not talking about taking the bottom splash shields off, etc, but there wasnt enough "slack" of intake tube in the fender to tighten the filter onto. and if you try to get more, the intake slieds off off the MAF plus, its kind of an eyesore if you want to have a nice showy engine bay. If I get a ram air hood out of my accident, i'll just get an air box to go with and and sell my K&N

I agree with the SLP. Ram air isn't necessarily better.

Well I hear they all work the same. I have an AS&M CAI but I think it looks homemade. You should check the lingenfelter page. As far as the ram air hood and air box I have read that the performance is the same until about 80 at which you will be just about finished in the 1/4. Those hoods look awesome and if I had the money that is what I would get. My votes goes to Lingenfelter or Moroso.

The G2 is worthless junk. The Moroso looks like junk. Here's another vote for the SLP. I've never owned the G2 but I did buy a Moroso at first. The Moroso requires you to cut a hole in the metal and it's just plain ugly. It was in my car for about 2 weeks before I ordered the SLP. The SLP is the best IMHO.

Just curious has anyone seen or heard of anybody modifying a FTRA (fast toys ram air) set up to work on an lt1?

Doh! I just opened a new thread almost exactly like yours.

Check out this site

LT1Dave has an LS1 intake setup on his T/A. Ithink it can be made to fit an LT1 with an ultra-Z/RamAir hood.

Check it out. I think its the cat's ***.

another pic

I also think the SLP sheet metal intake will match up well. Its kinda like the FTRA only intakes from down low.

Good luck and you don't have to take the easy way out. Try something different and better. Think about it, no bends, fresh air from directly outside, cold air from in front of the radiator. I can't see a downside other than a little ingenuity. That's part of the fun anyway.

Ah, well good luck.

Actually I was checking his car out yesterday at the track and that setup is the cat's ***, not to mention his car is a beast. I just don't know if my hood has enough rise to accommodate the lid. He' got the predator style hood and it looks like it has a little more room than mine.
