Good Luck Timing is predetermined by the pcm/optispark. Only thing you can do is alter the stock cam gear to allow cam buttons on the pin so you can retard/advance the cam, there is no aftermarket ones I have seen to date.

Keep in mine that the Opti is driven by a dowel off the nose of the cam. If you install a cam in an LT1 anything other than "straight up" the ignition timing will be off (as will the fuel injector timing, though that would be trivial). The timing error can be corrected in a couple of ways, but I am not sure I am the best person to explain them. Some have used an offset bushing, it should also be possible to do this via PCM programming. If you do a searrch I think you will find this explained.

thanks,
i feel like the valve timing needs some advance and am in the process of trying to verify that through degreeing. if i find this to be true can i re dowel the gear or will this throw off the opti?

depending on the year the opti drive can only be installed one way only (1993-1995) you can increase the bore size of where the dowel pin connects to the stock gear and use offset bushings or just have your pcm tuned by a reputable company that they can do that for you for less work. retarding/advancing the cam will have no effect on static timing from the pcm/optispark since that is also variable...optispark stays constant, it's the pcm that makes the changes.
