Bent 1.6rr Question...

Stupid me didn't tighten 3 of my poly locks and they loosened up on me... 3 of my rockers from the hot cam kit got bent in at the top a little to where the rollers became stuck. I lightly filed the bodies and now it spins freely again and the motor is running fine. Is there any adverse affects to this or something I should watch out for? Should I replace the rockers just to be safe?

Nope sorry, It was done at a friends shop over the weekend, I was just relaying what he told me. From the top you cant notice anything but you can see where they had to do a little filing on the bottom. If theres anything specific I should ask him about what he did I can do...

What exactly got bent on the rockers? You filled the body of the rockers? With what?

If they were bent, then they were stressed. Stressed metal becomes stronger (which most people don't realize), BUT it also becomes more brittle and prone to failure (crack propogation, etc). I would replace them. I would be scared to put the pedal to the floor and watch the rpms near 6k knowing that I have 3 bent rockers. If they let go at that rpm, you could either bend a valve, pushrod, or put a hole in the piston. Just my .02.

I'd replace them... should only be about $18 a piece to replace those. Who makes 'em for that kit, Crane right?

Sounds to me like one of the discs that align the rocker on the valve tip got bent. With a loose rocker it can jump up and the disc will be pushing down on the valve instead of the roller. This will bend it in and prevent the roller from free movement.

Just my opinion (no facts to back it up), but there is NO way I would use those in my engine. Why take the risk?

I'll talk to my friend who did the work tomorrow. I dont want to chance it but I'm a little short on $ right now. Im wondering if they'll last till I store it next month, then I'll have the whole winter to fix it.

From your pictures I'm guessing that might have happened, basically the rockers were insanely loose so what could be damaged when that happens? Like I said I'll get all the details tomorrow.

Thanks for the replys so far!

So I just got back from the shop and asked them to show me what they did. Basically it was just like the pictures shown in this treads (Thanks alot!!) except not near as bad, basically they were bent a little but they were able to fix them with a really small file (to round off the body where it contacted the washer) and a pick (to straighten them out). Any oninions on this?

I wouldn't be overly concerned unless the tab that keep them on the valves have become shorter or mishaped. If your engine shop isnt too concerned with it I wouldn't be either. I for really want to be safe replace those 3.

When I bought mine used a couple of them had dings in those little side things, they work just fine. As long as the bearing still spins and there is enough material on the sides to keep it centered on the valve you'll be fine. Mine work just fine they are not nearly that bad tho.
