Buddy of mine is really trying to convince me of switching my valvetrain over to a solid roller setup but cant give me a value excuse as to why. I know a few of you guys have done it so can someone explain this to me?

The 3 major advantages of a solid roller are
1: The lifters are lighter because of a lack of moving parts when compared to hydraulic lifters. This allows the valve springs to control the valvetrain easier which results in higher RPM capability.
2: The lifters are incapable of collapsing the hydraulic plunger in the lifter (cause it's not there). This also helps extend the RPM range of the valvetrain, the fact that the lifters will not collapse also allows you to run a higher pressure valve spring for higher rpm applications
3: The solid roller camshaft is able to use a more aggressive lobe design which opens the valve faster due to the lighter wieght of the lifters and the increased spring pressure.
The 2 major draw backs to a solid cam
1: More valvetrain noise because you cannot "pre-load" a solid lifter.
2: More frequent rocker arm adjustment (although this is almost a non-issue with a roller)

I love my solid roller. It's stable as hell all the way to 7k plus . Old setup was a HR xe that droped like a rock at 6400 even with a hydra rev and higher pressure springs. The solid roller isn't that loud at all.
