Question Benefits of converting to OBD1

I'm doing a heads/cam swap in a couple weeks. I'm considering converting to the OBD1 pcm, only because it seems to be easier to find someone local to fine tune. I'm going with a mail order tune (madz28)to start with, but I know there will be problems here and there that need to be changed.
Are there any benefits that come along with swapping??

Re: Benefits of converting to OBD1

One of the advantages of converting to OBDI is obviously cheaper/free scanning/logging software. You can log and tune your car with the OBDI for under $150 when you can't even log the OBDII with that much money.

Second, the price of tuning an OBDI is cheaper than the OBDII.

Third, OBDI is more "mod" friendly than the OBDII is because it doesn't have as many codes to set for when you interfere with the engine sensors/devices.

Some say the OBDI will make more power than the OBDII on the same car, but I beleive you can make the same power with both, provided you have a good OBDII tune.

The disadvantages are that you will not be able to pass a scan test on an emission check with the OBDI (although you can keep your OBDII for that reason and just swap it in a couple of days before the test) and the infamous "high stall" problem for automatic cars with stalls 2800 or higher. While not all auto cars with a high stall experience this problem, there are some that will still not shift even after the software fix has been applied. For this reason, I would recommend getting your OBDII programmed.

Re: Benefits of converting to OBD1

Thanks for the info!
So it is a choice between risking a shifting problem (I do have a 3000 stall)and code problems...?
I sent you an email this morning, I just need a little more info to make my final answer.
