Belt squealing!?!?!

I was in the car wash yesterday and all of a sudden the belt started to chatter. I got home and took a look but couldnt find anything wrong so I just shot some belt dressing on it and it quit. I then went out later to drive it and started it and no problem but when I went on the road it started chattering like crazy according to RPM. Well I turned around and got it in the garage and shot some more loob on it and it quit but then started again and I just let it run for 5 or so minutes. Eventually it quit today again I had it. Sounds like from the alternator pully but I dont know. I loob it and it stops but I cant keep dousing it every 5 miles. Whats the deal?

I also noticed a air intake noise from the left side. Is this normal??

Forget the belt dressing. It won't fix anything. Could be belt, tensioner or anything driven by the belt. You could remove the belt and spin any of the pulleys to see if there is some excess drag.

I agree with Shoebox's comments.
Once I fixed a noisey belt on another vehicle by removing it and cleaning it with hot soap and water. It was glazed with grime and slipped. Rubber on older belts tend to harden and increases the chance of slipping. However, you might have a idler or tensioner pulley bearing going out.

Re: Belt squealing!?!?!

The noise completely stops with the belt dressing so Im assuming it is the belt. I will have time to look at it tomarrow. I picked up a Gates V-power belt. Is this any good? The car sat for a year or 2 before I bought it so its possible that the belt had a good long time to harden. It just started when I was in the car wash so maybe that triggered something.
