BELT & PULLY CHANGE

I need to change my belt and was wondering if now would be the right time to change the pulley? Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to change the pulley on a 95 Z? I'm told it will net 10-Hp or better and a performance pulley only costs around $60.00. If that’s true, seem like a lot of ponies for the money? Anyway, I was recently quoted $90.00 to just replace the belt, is that out of line?

Thanks,

I've (heard) that pully's barely do anything so it's probably not worth the money

Do the pulley. I highly doubt it will get 10 hp that seems way high. I like it because it gives better throttle response and it is suppose to get about 5 average hp. It wont really give you any peak hp maybe 1 or 2 but if you want every pony do it. Especially for the $$$. You can get a pulley and belt for around $80. Oh and $90 for putting the belt in is way high. Do it yourself for $20. Just loosen the tensioner and pull the old one off and put the new one on. Takes maybe 5 mins.

Re: BELT & PULLY CHANGE

I have pullies...

They do make a difference...

In my opinion cain't go wrong a gain is a gain... otherwise why even bother modding your car from the beginning.

Getting your old one off might be tricky... I got mine off by applying my weight to keep the pully stready will removing the bolt's with my ratchet... kinda like falling down... and applying your weight on the bolt. IT works... but getting your old BAlancer might be hard. It's very simle to do though... the altinator pulley is the hardest if you have no air gun... but I think AUtozone can install the Pulley on there for free for you... most of them have an electric impact guns on standby.

Oh yeah and 90bucks to change the belt... is a rip off... never go back to that shop... it takes 3 seconds to change the belt... not close to being difficult.

Thanks, I'll give Autozone a call. Did you feel an improvment in throttle response when you changed them?

Not the only one either. My March pullies (hub and Alt.) are coming off anyone interested? I'll even throw in the belt, still in good shape.

Thats why I got a bbk pulley they say you don't lose any of your accessory power. Oh and I have noticed a throttle response difference from the pulley.

Re: BELT & PULLY CHANGE

You need the smaller crank pulley to save the Power Steering unit.

Of course it may gain some HP, but you run the Steering unit 30% less rpm.

That means when your car hits 100,000miles on odometer, you really only have 70,000 mi on the power steering unit.

That's why I did mine when bought it new in 95. Pluse the Pwr steering unit don't like spinning to 6500rpm on tach.... it reduces that 30% also... very good for anything with bearings.

Of course the headlights dim at lights, so you need to buy the necessary SMALLER alt pulley to compensate for the low charge. I bought mine from Jegs or Summit after I found the part number on some website. Like SLP or march, etc.
