Before you go with a forged crank
Before you go with a forged crank
I just though i would let you guys in on some info i was reading about. Well anyways i was reading about a carclub in carcraft. The club consits of a bunch of 10 sec chevy IIs and one wagon in the 12s na. The thing that caught my eye was that all of them were running a cast chevy lt1 crank and some of them were spraying around a 250 shot of nitrous. Does this mean that the stock crank is really strong? I know the rods can handle around 450 horse but what can the crank handle, some of these guys must have had atleast 500-600 fwhp. Anyways just rambling.
Re: Before you go with a forged crank
HP does not kill cranks, rpms and detonation kills them. As long as they are keeping the revs in check (<6500) and they're tuned well, the stock LT1 crank will survive a LOT of power.
My next setup is going to be a stock crank, Eagle 6" Hbeams, Forged pistons and a 200shot. Looking at around 600rwhp on the bottle.

Re: Before you go with a forged crank
I saw that same write-up awhile back.
Can't remember what they each had, but are you sure they weren't running cranks from early 70 Gen I LT1s? If that's what they were using, they're forged.
