bbk 52mm probs

the idle is all messed up, high. I turned the screw and it came down some but its like once you press the pedal for the first time after cranking the car it is stuck first then breaks and idles high from then on...... when you start going it stays on like the same rpm all the way through, at about 1700, before and after every shift. it won't go do after the shift so I have lost all my shift firmness. and the high idle is annoying me, when you go from a dead stop and let of the brake it starts to go and will get high enough to shift to the next gear. someone told me it could be the TPS?? do I need a new one, please help!!! thanks guys

I just bought a BBK 52mm TB as well.... I think you may need to slot the holes in your TPS. My TB came with instructions on how to do this, did yours?? BBK says it may be necessary to do this in some cases. It seem that some TPS's read incorrectly when installed on the new TB and need to be slotted so they can spin a bit and read properly. Check the box the TB came in and see if it has the instructions on how to do this.

Back you idle screw off unil it just touched the spring assembly. Try not to bind the baldes in the bores. I had to back the screw almost 2 turns on my 52 mm to get the idle down far enough. Make sure you have the lttle foam piece in the TPS correctly installed. In you old TB part of it should have been "sticking out." If you flip this thicker pice the wrong way it can mess up you idle.

Good luck!

PLEASEEE HELPPP!!!

thanks guys i'll try that, as for the other guy I didn't buy it brand new so no box, I know the tb isn't bad because it was from a buddy of mine a he wouldn't sell me anything bad... maybe I should try to describe what it does a little more detailed....
alright

when you crank the car up the idle is fine. But once you put it in drive or reverse and go to push the throttle pedal down it's like the pedal is stuck(hard to push) so i have to kind of stomp it to get it to literally "break in" then after the rpms come down from me pushing in the throttle they are too high, like 1200-1500. So I start to drive and the car doesn't seem to shift like it use to, very UNfirm and doesn't want to get up in rpms high and then at the shift it doesn't want to drop the rpms low. I had 3.73 installed like 2 weeks ago and it made my car shift extremely hard and firm big 3000 to 1200(not exact) jump after shift. when you go to slow down the car seems to shift hard while down shifting, the opposite from what it used to do. I had a mechanic look at it, he played with the TPS, it didn't help. I am going to get someone that knows a bunch to look at it soon but he is always busy so hard to get to. Does anyone know what my problem could be, I can't just go get my old TPS because I gave it to my buddy when I bought then new TB because his stocker didn't have one. PLEASE ANYONE HELP!!!!

Keep cranking on the throttle stop screw until you get the desired idle. That or your TB isn't on all the way and a lot of unmetered air is getting into the intake manifold.

I believe that it is on good. The idle has been set down by me, when you crank the car it idles fine, It is after you press the gas pedal for the first time, thanks

Maybe your blades are sticking in the bores or the rotaing part is messed up? Try oiling the edge of the blades (a little) and the rod that connects them. If the sticking stops you might have you issues identified.

I did have a BBK 52mm too. I found out that there were little burs on teh butterfly valves which would not let them shut all the way letting in more air(hence the higher idle) You can sand them off, I decided just to get one from TPIS

I'm the guy he bought the TB from. I can't exactly figure out why it's messing up. I had a similar problem but it was because my throttle cable was stretched out and it was causing a hesitation, which made me push the pedal harder, and the car would then "jump" when trying to go from a stop. I also had a high idle, but had it tuned down. Jim, if you wanna try to switch out our TPS's, then we can do that and see what happens. Just let me know. I hope we can figure this out. I don't want you to think I sold you a piece of crap. I'll keep trying to call Chuck. I called a little earlier and still didn't get anyone. We'll get this straightened out eventually.

Have you tried backing the idle screw off yet?
