Battery Issue: Need Help ASAP

I just went out and put my key in the ignition, car had power, then turned the key and everything went completely dead. I can't even lock/unlock the doors. I popped the hood and checked my battery connections and everything looked okay, so I just jiggled the wires a little bit and once again the car had power. I turned on my headlights and they're bright as usual, no sign of a dying battery. I put my key in the ignition and the radio works, but as soon as I turn the key everything goes completely dead. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Otherwise I'm stuck at work today The battery is only 2 months old.

Check the connections, then check them again. Sometimes the added draw to the battery will cause a weak connection to become no connection. Also, check the terminals themselves. I had mine corrode and come off at one point......

Good luck.

Re: Battery Issue: Need Help ASAP

Check the positive terminal post. I'm not talking about the one on the battery, but rather GM's poor excuse for a power distribution block. It should have a small cable that sprouts from your positive battery wire to the post, and on top of that is the most/all the accessories, including the ignition. I don't know exactly how, but my Camaro managed to MELT that post, and was causing everything to ground out on the body. Once I bought a REAL power distribution block from Advance Auto (the only kind they sell is fused, which isn't necessarily a bad thing...) and connected the wiring to the necessary posts, the car started and ran fine. Still does...

If your headlights go dim or out when you turn the key, it's probably a loose connection. If they stay bright, it may be the ignition switch.

Check the cables/battery for corrosion.

Re: Battery Issue: Need Help ASAP

I went ahead and disconnected both terminal connections and retightened them, the car starts fine now. I guess it was a bad connection on the terminal. Thanks guys.
