OK, I'm new here, hi!

Anyways, last night my transmission started to make a banging noise while i was pulling out of a friends driveway. It now bangs if I put it in drive and hit the accelerator mildy hard and gets worse the harder you push. However, if i put it in 1st, then 2nd then d and finally into D it doesn't make any noise at all. It also doesn't make any noise while coming to a stop. The car has always shifted hard with a "jump" as though it has a shift kit but since we bought it used we can't be sure. Any help you can offer is much appreciated. thanks!

And FYI: my car is a '97 z28 with no mods aside from a borla rear section exhaust.

Does the "Bang" seem like it is coming form under your armrest? More than likely your transmission mount has seperated into two pieces. This is very common in these cars.
Probably cost you around $60-$70 to get replaced at a shop. If you are mechanical, and have tools, jacks, and jackstands, you could do it yourself.

you might be right but,,,it sounds aufully like you just have a broken tranny mount. you might wanna replace it befor you spend tons of money on your tranny..very cheep and easy to do..
it cant hurt.

the sound is coming from right below the shifter. Hell I can even feel it!

edit: will a new tranny mount from prothane be fine? or is there something specific i need?

 

yup broken tranny mount. sounds like your driveshaft might be hitting the floor board, thats what mine was doing when the mount broke. the prothane one is fine but you will get alot of vibrations going throuth the body. i would go with the slp one if i were you. i did a poly one and took it out the same day, unless you want the feeling of an all out race car then go with slps mount if you want it to last without the large increase in vibrations like the poly one will do.

 

my car has no vibrations whatsoever.....I'm running an energy suspension polyurethane tranny mount. I say go for it, its only $21.

Try turning the key to the "On" position, cranck it on and then wake up from your drea.... err (grin)

Man... Somebody Jinxed you Tat aint not ER tranny mount... either that or your Butt-meter needs some tune up too


Really... Yer the most lucky man. I can feel the freaking valve train rattling strong on mine!!! (well, almost)
