Balljoints?

When I'm pulling out of my parking spot and I turn the wheel all the way left or right and give it gas, It feels like i'm slipping on ice! I really dont know how to explain it better? Front tires feel like there coming off! It only happens when its really cold outside too. Also, sometimes when i'm coming to a stop, I hear a lound clunk up front? I check everything in case someting was loose, but everything seemed fine? I thought it may be my balljoints, but when I put my car on stands and shoock the wheel it didnt budge, and I think there the factory balljoints since they have no grease fitting. I do have 93k on the car? Any ideas?

Does if feel as though the front end is kicking over?
What condition are your tires in?

I have had this problem a couple of times (including once after new ball joints), though without the pronounced clunk, and both times a front-end alignment cured it.

With 93k miles, you might also consider replacing those balljoints before getting the car aligned, though that's strictly a preventive maintenance measure.

Yes, like the tires are kicking over. Tires are good, got an align bout 7k ago. Could bad balljoints cause my alignment to be off that bad? How hard are they to replace? Thanks!

Yes, bad ball joints will screw up your alignment. I just replaced mine last weekend along with putting in poly bushings. If you havent done it before, give youreself plenty of time. The upper ball joints are riveted on. So you either drill out or dremel out the rivets and bolt on the new one. For the lower ball joint, you will need to rent the ball joint press from auto zone and press the old ones off and new ones on. Also rent the ball joint separator tool from auto zone.

Balljoints aren't really hard to do, but like Vegas said, they take some time. I tested mine like you said, and they appeared fine, but when I took them out, I found otherwise.

The upper ball joints are a piece of cake, the lowers are more difficult. When I did these, I had taken off the LCAs, so I just brought them to a machine shop to have them pressed in, though you shouldn't have to if you rent a ball joint press.

Be careful when threading in the grease fittings! If they don't go in straight, neither will the grease. The mating area is quite soft.

While you're under there, check your steering rack boots and boot clamps (I had lost a clamp), and eyeball the control arm bushings.

Well, I just completed my LBJ replacement. I used the press from AutoZone and it was a miracle tool on the removal. But on the pressing of the new one back in, I am not sure at all. When I took the old one out I heard a pop and then they really came out easy. But the pressing of the new on in just about killed me. It took me several attempts at getting them straight and I am not sure that I got them in all the way. There was no pop or anything. Should there have been? Everything went back together fine, so I am assuming they are OK. Any ideas how I can check or would know?

Thanks!

PS: In hind sight, it was easy to get them out, but I should have just paid the $250 to have NTB do the whole thing that way they would be pressed in correctly. But I got the experince of doing it and that's worth something

There is no pop when they go back in. As long as they went in straight, and look like theyre seated well, you should be ok.
