is it bad if lifter retainer is on backwards??

hi guys im pretty sure i put the lifter retainer on backwards after seeing some pics of engines on different sites. backwards meaning i put the end with the little hole at the tip in the front instead of the back. got my intake on now, soooooo, whats the verdict? yank the intake and put it with the hole in the back? or it doesnt matter? biiiiiiiggggggg thanks as always

umm? do you mean the metal return tray that bolts to the bottom of the intake manifold?

when you say lifter retainer I'd think you're talking about that spider like thing that goes over the lifter keys.

although it might not make a differenace, i think it is what makes sure oil is distributed to all the lifters

yank that intake
i'm not 100% on this one

The spider looking thing is the lifter guide retainer plate. It is symmetrical, i think, it just holds down the lifter guides (the two hole things that go around each intake/exhaust lifter combo). It could matter which way, but i dont think it does.

The lifter hold down bracket is symmetrical, fits either have. It holds the guide bars in place, nothing else.

Thumbs up

I just put mine in, and it is symmetrical except for that notch. I didn't know where the notch was oriented originally, but I put it facing the back. I really don't think it could make any difference, even in the oil flow. I wouldn't pull the intake just for that. It really is symmetrical, and it really just holds the retainers down.

what do you mean? i am talking about the "spider thing" in the lifter valley, the thing that holds the guides in place. im not talking about the piece thats bolted under the intake manifold. now im (but thanks all just the same) so far most of the responses say its alright, except for yours, which puts a doubt in my mind. are we talking about the same thing? thanks

keep your intake on and finish the car ..

I happen to still have my intake off (just installed my motor) and everyone's right.. the bracket is symmetrical, so either way you put it in, it's still doing it job <- which is just to hold the guides in place. Has no bearing on oiling what so ever.

FWIW, mine doesn't even have any kind of holes in it.
