bad gas milage

bad gas milage

i have just bought and 1997 ws6 trans am 6 speedall orignal with 111000 miles. the car gets 15 mgp around town. the car runs perfect the sparkplugs look good. what can i do to improve it? and what might my problem be? i ran the codes and it had 1 o2 scancer out thats it. please help

Do you mean it had a code for the o2 sensor? Which code is it?

ok we just checked it agen and that code was and old code so the car is not throwing anycodes at all.

Take a look at the plugs,wires,change the fuel filter,air filter

the car has acdelco plugs they dident look 2 bad a little carbin. but i an gonna change them sumtime this week. what ones do yall perfer for sparkplugs and wires?

I wouldn't say there is any problem. My 94 Z got 15mpg or less around town. I think it all depends on driving habits and where you live. A lot more traffic lights here then more open areas.. stop and go traffic.

I get 13-17 mpg depending on how I drive... your #s sound alright to me

I dont know i just went from driving and 1995 lt1 camaro (auto) with lt headers 373 gear around ton and was gettin 20 mph. i thought i was gonna get way better gas milage but i gess i was wrong.

20 MPH? Did you know that the in town EPA rating when it was new was only 17 mph....err mpg.

Yea I just topped off my tank.Said 32 miles on the trip odometer.Took in $18,but traffic is bad around here and gas is $4.65 a gallon.

Make sure all your tires are at 35 psi. Tire pressure has a lot to do with your gas mileage also.
