Bad GAS???

Car was running great until i was running low on fuel. So i filled up with 91 Shell. The next day i noticed the car was spitting and sputtering really bad. Problem seems worse under load. Is this a sign of bad gas? IF so how is the best way to empty the tank?

Thanks,

Re: Bad GAS???

That could be. I don't drive the car more than 500 miles a year. Garage queen. But we have been driving it more with the mild weather and i let the gas get lower than normal. Might have picked up some junk from the bottom of the tank.

You could have trashed the fuel pump. What is your fuel pressure?

yeah, coulda burnt the pump up, it uses the fuel in the tank to keep it cool, and they don't like to be ran dry. Check the pressure and make sure thats ok before you empty the tank thinking its bad fuel.

I only got down to the 1/8 tank mark. Lower than it has been in years. I wonder about the filter. That will be my first step. Would the pump work at idle but falter under load?

It could do a bunch of different things really. A gauge would be crucial in determining the health of the fuel system.
