bad clutch chatter in reverse

when i try to back up. the clutch chatters so bad in reverse the rear end feels like its going to come out from under the car. it jumps up and down. ive heard that it could be bad motor mounts or a bad tranny mount. and its so voiolent of a jurking in the rear of the car im scared that it could hurt the tranny. i changed the rear end fluid yesterday and the gears look great. i dont want to tear nothing up (if i havent already).

has anyone had this trouble before. i need help. its done it for a while but now its really starting to bother me.

and can you tell me the easiest way to check the motor and tranny mounts to see if there bad.

and if they are bad. which ones should i get polyurethane or 1le. i dont know much about tranny mounts or where to get them

thanks i advance.

I have had my tranny out twice this summer and by the looks of it, I will be dropping soon again for the third time. The first time this summer I changed my clutch, and also installed energy suspension, torque arm bushing and tranny mount. Everything was fine, a little vibration & noise, but fine. Clutch started to slip after 1200 miles and the tranny came out again.n Had to replace the clutch disk (with new version of Star Spec 3 carbon) and the damn rear main seal. Put everything back together and now the rear main is leaking once again, but that is not my point. Ever since I put this newer version of the stage 3 carbon disk in, every time I put the car in reverse, it shakes like a ****. Unless, I tach it up and slip it, or do a slow dump and once engaged in reverse, I then give it fuel. Other than that, I am having the same problem. Hopefully someone will shed light on this, cause I thought I might be the only one.
Sorry to jump on your post, but inquiring minds want to know

yep thats my problem to. ive had mine out eight times for breaking the springs in the clutch. the last one was for rear main went and cover the clutch disc over time. i also have to dump the clutch in reverse almost stalling out the car and then give it gas. i swear i think the axle going to come out of the car. the guy at the clutch shop told me that he thought it would be the motor mounts. something about when you put the car in reverse the engine gets torqed the other way and the there may be wear on the mounts and its just grabbing and releasing (chattering)so fast it gets violent. i dont know. sounds like were the only 2 people to ever have this happen. oh well maybe someone can help us.

can someone tell me how and what to look for concerning my motor and tanny mounts.

Cool

Ramzee, I have the same clutch Spec Stage III carbon with 6 pucks. How long have you broken it in? Mine chattered like a **** the first week, but then got better. It's still very grabby. I shake in reverse sometimes too.

here is a post on what my problem was. and the only other thing that i can think of, that will do that is the broke springs in the clutch, bad motor mounts, or what happen to me is the bell housing bolts backed out and caused a ungodly chatter and vibration in the drivetrain

this may be some areas you my want to check

my clutches cost 153. thats a solid disc clutch made with whatever material i want, like kevlar, bronze, iforgot the other materials they offer mine is bronze, and also it is a 6 puck clutch. they will ship you one if you want. if you put a new clutch put in a new pp and have the fly wheel turned.

and i will never put a spec clutch in my car. ive heard about to much trouble with them.

My car did the same thing after I did the A4-M6 conversion. I had a stock clutch and I figured I didn't break it in right. It ended up being the torque arm. I was missing a bolt on the rear-end to torque arm and it was deflecting. Mine chattered in 1st and reverse, but it was REALLY bad in reverse. Fixed that and no more chatter. HTH
