back yard tune...

i was thinking about making a FPR. i have a 95 LT1 M6, full bolt ons, so stock motor. long tubes - cats pulls alot of exhaust causing it to run cooler, and more rich. instead of spending money for a tune or a personal tuner i was thinking of lowering the fuel pressure with an FPR, but ive been looking around and i gather that if i lower the fuel pressure, it will help unrichen the table but the PCM will eventually go back? correct me if im wrong. other than it being rich it runs fine and is smooth. i can just tell when the AFR gets too rich by driving it. is there any way to keep it in open loop? it runs hard and super consistant in open loop. what would be downsides of keeping it in open loop? if i barely give it gas and smoothly push into throttle (not necesarilly slowly) it tends to keep (or atleast i think) a better AFR, if i jump on it hard in lower RPMs (like im loading up the motor) theres no distinct change, but i can tell it just richens up and stays that way untill i cruise with barely any throttle for a while, or a complete cool down and restart.
