Baby Cam Passes CA Smog
Baby Cam Passes CA Smog
I failed because of the gas cap last time, but this time I passed.
The HC number for the 15 mph dyno test was very close at 49 ppm.
I'll have to do some searches to find out what other CA cars with small
cams like mine, the GM845, GM Hot, etc. are measuring in HC for the 15 mph
dyno test. This is the first test with this cam so I do not have a comparison.
The last test in 2003 with the stock cam was 34 ppm HC. I would think the
HC should increase, but not to 49 ppm. Here are the results.
15 MPH
1952(RPM) 14.6(%CO2) 0.0(%O2) 50,9,49(HC PPM MAX,AVE,MEAS)
0.48,0.02,0.16(CO% MAX,AVE,MEAS) 414,57,32(NO PPM MAX,AVE,MEAS)
25 MPH
2162(RPM) 14.7(%CO2) 0.0(%O2) 34,7,25(HC PPM MAX,AVE,MEAS)
0.45,0.03,0.01(CO% MAX,AVE,MEAS) 701,50,6(NO PPM MAX,AVE,MEAS)
Another interesting note is that the technician either did not notice, or just
did not care that my cats had been replaced and relocated.
If any of you programmers, tuners, or experts have comments please share
them.

CC 305 Numbers
I found these CC305 Results for Z_Maniac:
HC
15 mph : Max = 83 / Measured = 82
25 mph : Max = 48 / Measured = 47
My first question is if the 305 was on a 112 or 114 CL. Looks
like more data is necessary. Anyway, I guess the 49 ppm at
15 mph is not so bad. The OBDI cars have an advangage with
the higher limits too.
It looks like OBDII cars in CA would have a tough time
with the CC305, GM Hot, and anything larger.

Re: Baby Cam Passes CA Smog
How far were the cats moved and what are they? If moved further back they will get colder exhaust and the stockers are best from an emmisions standpoint.
Glad to see you passed this time.

which could be the cause. I would say there is about 3' of pipe from the
exhaust mainfold to the cat on the driver side.
Re: Baby Cam Passes CA Smog
I'm located in Ontario and our emissions use the 25mph test and idle test. When the car was pretty much stock it tested very clean.
HC max 62 actual 5 idle 8
CO max .35 actual .18 idle .01
NOx max 456 actual 123
I would think that your cats aren't as efficient as stock cats in stock location but you squeaked through this time. The worst is that they keep lowering the limits all the time.
