B&M Ripper vs Pro 5.0, hoping to get a real answer..
I'm looking to get an aftermarket shifter because I just realized I only have a ****, not the whole thing (people that sold it lied or didn't know better), and I felt a friend's B&M and it was awesome.. So I know I want a new one, but I want the best, and it's always debated...
Before anyone tells me to search, I did already.. And basically got pages upon pages of everyone loving the one they have, but not really giving much support.. I think the B&M and the Pro 5.0 seem to get the most recognition so I'll start it off with those two... If you've used both (or I guess even if not), tell which one you liked the most, but support it with why.. What are the actual differences as far as feel, shortness of throws, etc.. I know the B&M is a true short throw, but then the Pro 5.0 has the mechanism to help the 2-3 shift..
Both advertise stronger parts, have aluminum housing, and steel handles. The only differences I can find so far are that the B&M has 30% shorter throws (as opposed to the 5.0 having a feeling of shorter throws?) and that the B&M has adjustable stops (can't find if the 5.0 has this)..
So what is your opinion, but back it up.. Don't just name one and that's it. I'll try to take all the answers and make a page someplace with pros and cons of each in a comparison to help in the future...

Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a Pro 5.0, that's the main reason I started this lol.. I went through the first 4 gears in my friends Z28 with the Ripper, but only while it was parked so it isn't quite the same as driving it, but I still loved the feel..
If anyone in Delaware or nearby MD/PA/NJ has a Pro 5.0 that they don't mind letting me try, just the same way as I tried that one let me know...
But either way I'm still interested in the differences between the two, especially as far as actual advantages as opposed to personal feel... Or maybe they really are equal...

I'm in your area, but all I have is a B&M and a Factory Hurst out of a 01 WS6. Can't say I know anyone with one either. You may want to check out the EFA forum. Someone over there should be able to hook you up.
I have a pro 5.0 with a Short Stick and an MBA Shift baal (a very short ball) Ive never missed the 2-3 shift with it, its AWESOME. Basically just Jam the shifter up and it finds 3rd
, Never drivin a Ripper, but i know Madwolf had both and liked the Pro 5.0 better (the reason i went with the 5.0) and im VERY glad i did go with it, probly one of the best mods. Makes the car a ton more fun to drive

I have driven cars with both and personally I like the Pro 5.0 better. This is mainly because in my opinion it feel like a stronger piece. The shifts are extremely accurate and the stick was a little shorter.
I have driven them both, and my opinion is that the pro 5.0 is a much better unit.. Mainly because of the positive feel of the stick i guess.. Plus i have been raceing mine for about 3 years and have never had to adjust the stops since i installed it... I hardly ever miss a shift, and i always power shift.. P.S. the short stick is junk in my opinion, i have one, and don't like it....... Just my .02
I have the Ripper in my V6 Camaro and have never been really happy with it. The throws are a lot shorter than stock and its a whole lot more precise feeling, but almost too precise if thats possible (too notchy maybe?). I missed 3rd a lot with it.
When it came time to get a shifter for the Z I checked out someone's pro 5.0 and I liked it and along with all the good reviews on here, I ended up getting one. I do prefer it over the Ripper in the v6 car, even though its hard to compare since they are two different trannies (T5 and T56). I nail shifts very consistantly with the pro 5.0 and it feels good and has short throws. I cut about an inch off of it, because it has LOTS of threads to spare. (threads actually hung about an inch below the ****, so that was my main reason for cutting it down.) So now it is shorter than a Ripper without buying a short stick.
Pro 5.0 is what I'd buy again if I had to do it over.
