Re: Autozone Thermostat

i just had the coolant flushed and then i had no heat. so i took it back up there and had them do it again and still no heat. i figured it was air pockets so i bled the system and that didnt work. then i replaced the thermostat because my dad insisted that it was the problem when i knew it wasnt. then i wanted to flush the heater core but we didn't have anywhere to drain the radiator and my dad didnt want me doing it so we took it to the shop. i told them that it probably just need to have the heater core flushed so hopefully they do that tomorrow and dont try to replace any expensive shiste.

Re: Autozone Thermostat

What about the coolant u use? I used some yellow mt. dewish super tech stuff. Staying cool tho so far.

BTW, drain plug STUCK IN BLOCK NOW... way to warm me about how impossible it is to get back in... hopefully not crossthreaded.

And I did not know about the t-stat issue, cuz... well... look at my post count.

Re: Autozone Thermostat

I bought my 180* from autozone. They had two part numbers one for a 94, which was the standard SBC thermo, then one for a 95, which was the correct LT1 thermo. So I just told them I had a 95.

The correct thermostat should have a rubber ring attached to the rim of the thermostat. There is no other gasket used.

Exactly, I think he means rubber ring. When I went to autozone, I had to buy the rubber ring seperate and put it on myself. Nobiggie.

what shoebox is saying is that our reverse flow LT1 thermos come with the o ring attached to them...not seperate..its not that hard to understand. Bryan Smith if u had to buy a o ring gasket and apply it you probably got the wrong thermo and it is not reverse flow. comprende

Re: Autozone Thermostat

I ordered my Hypertech 160 degree stat from Summit. I don't trust AutoZone with stuff like this.

The o-ring is not attached, it's separate. The only way it becomes attached is if someone pulls it out of the box and installs it onto the thermostat. You can see in Brian's pictures that the gasket is indeed a separate piece. It also has it's own part number.

Re: Autozone Thermostat

I ordered a 160 from Autozone a couple years ago. It was the Hypertech I believe and looked identical to the one I pulled out. Car stays around 170 on the highway now so I know I got what I paid for.

Re: Autozone Thermostat

If indeed that thermo does work(is reverse flow as it looks.ie.taller)/fit properly on an LT1, why did u buy a 195 when the stock is 180. why would u want to make your engine run hotter than stock (which we all know is too hot in most cases)

All im trying to say is that Autozone is not a place that i or many would buy LT1 parts from. I went in there to buy some seafoam(not a part) about 2 months ago and the guy was trying to argue with me, telling me i had a LS1 since my car was a 94. I was laughing the entire time...point is is that they have monkeys working there who are as sharp as a bowling ball. no offense blwn

your right, the gasket is attatched to the thermostat when you put it in but we sell the o-rings separatly

I was trying to make sure that people knew that there is no gasket used on the mounting surface (like the traditional SBC thermostat).

It's good to know that AZ can sell the correct thermostat (and the o-ring).
