autozone scan

okay, although it wasn't my LT1.....

i took my moms jeep to autozone because she said the check engine light was on(it's an 03 liberty). i drove there and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it. and the check engine light wasn't on.

anyway. i get to autozone and asked them to scan it, they said since the check engine light isn't still on it wouldn't come up with anything.

i told them that the computer stores the codes in the computer unless you clear them. and they said it didn't.

now my question is. they were a couple of kids about 20 years old or so. i'm wondering if they were just lazy and didn't wanna come out there, or if they know what they're talking about.

because i was under the impression, that the codes are stored. atleast i've read on here that LT1 pcms store the codes....

just wondering if they were full of crap

Yeah the computer should store the codes unless they're cleared with a scanner or the ecm loses power.

Sounds like you just talked to a couple of idiots that thought they knew what they were talking about since they work at the Auto Parts store.- I generally don't get very good responses when I ask questions unless I ask one of the older guys that's been working on cars for at least ten years.

some codes will take a few drive cycles to set a hard fault but yes they will store a code. This is why I don;t ask people at parts stores anything, just tell them what to do. On another note, I am friends with a comercial parts pro at a local advance. He oftem calls me at the shop when they have a question so that they can acualy give the customer a good answer. But yes for the most part they are young and ignorent. Most of them don;t have any auto expirence, they just sell parts.

Autozone is a bunch of cheapasses. They won't even spend the money to by the little $20 connector to do OBD1 cars. My old '94 Formula had a persistent SES light that I never found out what it was.
