Exclamation Autozone can't scan OBD1??!!

I went to two autozones today. The first guy said they didn't have an OBD1 scanner. SO I went to another. The guy there said they can only scan 97 and up.

So how am I supposed to find out why my SES light won't go out shot of wasting $70 at the dealer for them to scan it?

Get a scancard for the hypertech power programmer(about $100), and scan the codes yourself.

Cool

On OBD II cars all you have to do is jump the two upper right hand pins on the diagostic connector under the dash. Now turn the ignition to run and the SES light will flash out the codes. The first and last code will be 12 (flash......flash.flash), each code repeats 3 times (I think). Write the codes down and look them up in a manual or post them here and someone will tell you what they are.

Shoot me an email if you have any other questions.

You have an OBDII with an OBDI styled connecter...

you can piggy back an OBDII connecter with a paper clip though...it's on the autoxray.com website...

Has everyone gone nuts today?

For the LT1 f-body, the only year you can short pins and flash codes is 1993. All years after that require a scan tool.

There are no OBD-II cars with OBD-I connectors, but the 1995 is vice-versa.

AutoZone will only scan OBD-II.

slider: what year is your car? Consider making a short sig so people will have a reference when you ask questions.

Buy an auto xray...just use a paper clip...THe OBd-1/II thing gets annoying...now that I recall when I first got my ride I tried to get it scanned at AUtolame too...same issue. Auto X makes the OBII connector cable for OBD1 systems...but it's like 34bucks extra....paper clip...free....
