Auto Tapping results!
Auto Tapping results!
Ok... so a friend and I auto tapped my car a few days ago cause I was curious to see how it's doing after the 1.6's. My main concern would be knock since they tend to cause more noise. Now I do have an LT4 KM installed. So we cruised around and did some WOT runs. At some points I was gettin around 6-7* of knock. but! 6-7* of timing was not being pulled. My timing was right on target from 30-33*. So my question is, is this just false knock, and the LT4 KM is ignoring it and not pulling my timing? Or is this something to get looked at? Car runs good, and during the runs, even at the highest points of Knock, the car kept pulling like a champ and didn't hesitate. Probably be interesting to get it dynoed and take a look at the graph. If there is alot of waves, then I'd guess it is cuttin on power at times, but we'll have to see!
The scanner doesn't indicate "knock"... it indicates the "knock retard" that the PCM has calculated, based on the KS input.
How do you know the timing is "right on target from 30-33*"? First, do you have stock timing map, or a reprogram? There are many cases where the stock PCM timing calls for 38-40 (or even 45deg) of advance. Unless someone has mucked up the programming, as Rob noted, the timing indicated by the scanner is total timing from the tables minus knock retard.

well, as I watched the it go from 2*.. 4*...2*....6* and so on... the timing never dropped. As long as it's nothing to worry about, then I just let it be and not mess around with it.
