ASR shut car off?

Today was the first friendly race since the rebuild, against an 03 GT. From a dig he jumped the gun and had probably a 1 maybe 1 1/2 car lead before I left. I quickly had 2 cars on him, then it was shifting around 60mph I believe traction control kick in very hard, and completely shut the car off! Scared the **** out of me 6000+ rpm and the motor completely shut down. First thing that came to mind was I popped the motor. While coasting threw it in neutral and started it back up with no issues. Anyone ever hear of ASR retarding the timing so much it actually killed the motor? Or is there something else I should be worried about?

as far as i know ASR doesnt mess with timing, it uses brakes and throttle to slow the car.

but, a friend of mine just had a fire in his and fixed everything but the ASR problem. he was fine for a while, but the other day he hit a bump and i guess there was some melted wires...the ASR light came on, kicked in pretty hard, and the button wouldnt turn off the ASR. so, he shut the car off and now it wont start again. he's got to replace the huge wire bundle coming from the fuse under the hood to the fuse box in the car...sucks because that's a ton of wires.

While the TCS does retard timing, I've never heard of an incident that goes too far.

But my question to you is: Was any wheel loosing grip at only 60 MPH? Remember the TCS doesn't kick in until a wheel starts to spin.

Why would you race with it engaged any way?

Try the same thing with it dis-engaged.

I'm positive it chirps the tires pretty hard, so I know ASR came on because of that. The reason I left it on was because I wasn't going to launch it hard and I was on a back road anyways. Now I am afraid to wind her out again until I can find out what would cause the car to just die like it did. Still runs fine an all is the weird part...
