Re: Asp Underdrive Pullies!!!

I had the add on ones on my 97 taws6 and thought they added some harshness to the motor. I had the overdrive alt and underdrive bolt on pulley.

On my 96z I installed the 23% balancer underdrive replacement and overdrive alt pulley. I didn't like the way my auto was charging at lights with just the underdrive so added the overdrive alt pulley. I found my belts screeching with their recommended gates belt so I went down one size to a gatorback 600 instead of the recommended gates and problem solved. My air even works again, that gates was slipping. The belt they recommended with just the underdrive balancer was also a gatorback and it worked fine. I don't like gates belts!

The balancer is more money but its a very nice piece. It might throw off some harmonics by bolting on the add on one . For an auto think you would need the overdrive alt.A standard would likely get buy with just an underdrive and not sure would ever run the underdrive alt pulleys but again with a manual you might be ok if you didn't have a big stereo or anything sucking out big power.

I also have an asp balancer underdrive on my 99 ta. Their quailty is very high,I like their stuff a lot. Only problem most of the time is finding it in stock.I finally found my lt1 stuff used on the board.

I'd go with the 23% Crank Balancer Replacement one. Its a well machined peice. The 34% is a piggy back, which is not what I would recommend. Withe the 23% Crank, you could get the overdrive Alt. one but I'd recommend just having your idle programmed slightly higher. 800rpm is what ASP says is needed for a postive charge. Mine is fine with the stock idle, but higher would be better.
