ARP Hardend oil pump drive

Here's the deal,

when I pulled out the oil pump, I decided to upgrade the pump drive to hardend. So I tapped off the old drive and when my new shaft came in I went to install it. I remember the old one being snug on the internal oil pump gear spindle, but the arp sleave just seams be sitting on the spindle, and the shaft wobbles around. Is this thing supposed to be that loose? Is't it suppossed to sit tight on the rod?

That's the way it's designed so it will be ok.

Re: ARP Hardend oil pump drive

It's the same size down the entire shaft and the sleeve is seperate and held on by a rollpin, I dont especially like the pin but theres probably no way possible for it to go anywhere. The stock shaft is fine except for the plastic sleeve that will eventually crumble from the heat and also the shaft can come out with the distributor and fall in the oilpan.

Re: ARP Hardend oil pump drive

never a problem with a Mellings hardened oil pump drive from my local Autozone.

They sit on the oil pump freely too.

Fitting freely is fine, some fit tighter than others.

I use the Melling driveshafts and they always work well for me.

The Melling is half the cost of the ARP, not that the ARP is all that expensive but it is a $6 savings you can put towards some beer or something to calm you down when you start getting frustrated with some silly little part.

I tried to put mine (ARP) in from the top with the motor in the car and failed. Does this have to go in from the bottom? Or at least with oil pump removed?

Yep, from the bottom, with Oil Pump out.
