Argument needs settling on torque converter

Me and a friend were arguing about wether or not torque converter were only for automatics or not. he claims he knows someone who has one in his manual. of course the guy drives a mustang so he might be the one not knowing what he was talking about but anyways just looking for someone to give us the answer. thanks

Tell him he's stupid, and smack him in his face.

Manual = clutch
Auto = torque converter.

You could use a clutch with an automatic, but using a TC with a manual would be very complex.

Pontiac built '63 Super Duty Tempest drag cars (only 12 or so) with a 4-speed automatic transaxle (called a Powershift) which had either a torque converter or a clutch. You could swap them. That's the only OEM version of that I can recall. It also had a concentric hydraulic throwout bearing on the clutch, long before that was common.

That is jus hilarious!..Anyway about that Tempest... I bet that is really cool. They were the only car in the early 60's that had an independent rear besides the Vette right? Believe it or not I learned that from the movie "My Cousin VInnie" I love that movie..LOL
