Approximate cost of re-threading 4 header bolt holes on head

I stripped a few while back when I installed headers.

I recently pulled that head (see new thread with pics)

I want to get the head some machine work. All I would ned is 3 or 4 of the bolt holes re-threaded.

Does anyone know an approximate of what i'd pay to get that done?

Thank You

i paid 50 bucks recently for a spark plug thread to be redone.. so i would assume about that price give or take a few bucks for you to have something simple like a header bolt hole ... they also make helicoil kits where you could do it yourself for maybe 20 bucks or so....

Are helicoils as strong as they say?

I mean I got the head off so its no big deal bringing it to a shop, ya know

yeah helicoils are very strong.. to be honest if you get the holes rethreaded at a machine shop i would imagine they are going to put a helicoil in it as well... with it already off, if you dont mind spending the little bit of extra dough, it would be a lot more hassle free to have them do it..lol, but they will be using helicoils too .. or thats how the machine shops around here fix bad threads

Helicoils FTW!
About $10-25 for a 10pk. With labor, maybe $50 at the most to have one done.

Basically, they drill out the existing thread, insert the new coil and set it in place.
You end up with a brand new thread that holds as strong as the original.

They're a very easy install if you can get to the hole that needs drilling.
In my case, the heads were out of the car so it was cake.
I've seen them done in-car as well.

FTW "For The Win."

An enthusiastic emphasis to the end of a comment, message, or post. Sometimes genuine, but often sarcastic.

Originated from the game show Hollywood Squares where the result of the player's response is expected to win the game.

i just helicoiled my head myself and it was extremely easy. just put some tape over the exhaust opening so you don't get any shavings in the valve/cylinder. Drill the new hole, tap the hole, and insert the heli coil with the tool in the package. Took me 15 minutes to do 6 holes and the pack cost me about 25 bucks including the heli-coils, drill bit, tap, and heli coil insert tool.
