I need to take the opti spark out and replace it but don't really feel like taken off the wp. Anyway to do it with the wp still on.

Nope, not possible. I replaced mine this past Saturday, and there is no way that's going to happen. Remove the W/P, crank pulley(you can leave the hub on there), and other associated junk and it's right there.

 

if you can do it without taking off the waterpump, I'll bic my head and tattoo a 8ball on it.

You certainly CAN leave the waterpump in place...you just have to move the block back about 6 inches...

This thread got me thinking, would it be possible to make spacers for the waterpump and create an extra long drive shaft for the wp thinggie so that you could space the WP far enough out to get the opti on/off easily?!
It may have some clearance issues with some things.. but nothing too major.. (i dont thin)

You should be replacing the water pump while your in there anyways. You don't want that thing going out and dripping all over that new Opti.

 

Way too much trouble than it's worth...and if you use an electric water pump, there is no way it will fit if you want to keep your cooling fans.
