Anyway to adjust kickdown on A4, besides PCM.

Is kickdown only controlled through the PCM or is there another way. It will kick down to the lower gear at 3/4 throttle and blast to over 5 grand. It does it for all gears. I can't give it on the highway because it will kick down to second and be redline in second immeditely. Even at a little over half throttle in second, it will kick down and redline 1st, breaking the tires loose. I would like it to hold the gear more, unless it's at WOT. It would be fine if I was racing all the time on a course.

Any way to do this, or only through PCM. Also, could it mean a tranny problem that it's kicking down so early.

What are the speeds that this is happening? I think that this has more to do with it than throttle position.

I am not claiming to have your answer, I have just been looking at these exact tables in my PCM programming.

Speed sensor input, MAP readings and Throttle position all control upshift and downshift.

Was is like this before the PCMforless mods?

I didn't have the car too long before the programming, but it seem to do it before also. I put in a new Throttle position sensor and MAP. I can be going along at 35 - 40 and push it to not more than 3/4 throttle and it hit's first with the tach screaming to almost 6 grand. The biggest problem is entering the highway in overdrive, push the throttle down to merge, it drops to third, I push it more to 3/4 throttle, around 70 mph and it downshift's to second at close to 6 grand. Not only is this hard on the engine, but also doesn't help performance since I'm near the end of the gear anyways. This would be fine at WOT, but I'm limited to half throttle driving to keep it from screaming. Is there any adjustment in the TPS.

I don't think it's the TPS, Because the computer goes by speed sensor readings for downshifts. So that it doesn't downshft to far or upshift to fast.

If you are going 35-45 it should know not to go into first. For some reason it seems your car is only going by TPS readings. Does it shift at different RPMs when you accelerate or is it always the same? Or should I say does it modify when it shifts under different load conditions?

I would get a scanner on it to see if the TPS readings are linear and appropriate for the throttle position. The pcm will vary the shift mph depending on the TPS %.

I'm not sure what your asking? It will shift at higher RPM's the more throttle that is applied at different times. The shift points are different depending on load if that's what your asking. It seems pretty normal on up shifting, does tend to hold the gear alot higher than normal. At 1/3 throttle it won't shift until about 3500 rpms and never up shifts under 1700 rpm's even under the lightest throttle. It downshifts way to early through the entire throttle range. I'm not sure if a higher stall would cause this, because I never drove a car with a stall convertor and I have no history on my car to know if there's one in there other than factory. Any suggestions what to look at would be alot of help.

A scanner will tell you the throttle % open (0-100%). You can push your foot down on the accelerator pedal (with key ON and engine OFF) and watch to see if the readings are accurate.
I am beginning to think that your shift tables were altered, because it seems like you are in a mode that is similar to the "performance shift mode", but maybe more aggressive.

Like " Rip your car up mode ", the shift tables are way off since all transmission funtions are controled by the Computer.

I don't think it's my TPS since I bought a new one a week ago and it didn't change. I don't have a scanner, is there a way to check for resistance on TPS through the throttle range and if so what readings would I be looking for? I would have thought Brian would have notice the shift tables being so far off when I sent my PCM in, since I requested my same one back. I guess I can email and ask him. Thanks
