for anyone who has failed emissions and is trying to figure out why

check your intake elbow!!!!

i just got back from retesting my car after it failed the nox with a 2.7 (2.5 allowed) and HC with 1.5 (.80 allowed)

they didnt even complete the test on my car this time because it passed so easily.... it was .30 NOx and .13 HC

the ONLY things done to my car after it failed was 1. an oil change (which was needed since it had 6 month old oil in it, but only had 1500 mi on the oil), a front seal (irrelevent to the smog issue) and i put a new intake elbow on it because the shop found my old elbow had a rip ni it that was causing unmetered air to get in, too bad i paid $110 bux to find that out, plus another $90 for a new elbow, but at least i got one from summitt and not a cheapo rubber stock one..

just thought i'd give you guys some insight on how a simple little part can screw up your emissions test results
