anyone who has changed motor mounts...

i just bought some prothane polyurethane motor mounts. come with the two completely different looking mounts, 1/4 20 bolts and nuts and two 3/8 16 bolts and nuts. first of all which side is which? and second, what side are the bolts for? i need some clarifcation, it seems like the bolts only go on one side or something. me nor my dad can figure it out by looking at them and reading the instruction and i was looking for a little more insight before we start this friday.

If you look at the ones on the car it will be pretty obvious why one side is a dif shap/size. Only the drivers side need the bolts the to replace the rivits you are going to have to drill out to get the clam shell apart. The larger mount (pass side) should have come with a big zip tie to hold the clam togeather untill its all bolted back on.
Its a pain to do so good luck.

It seems very self explanitory to me but i'll see if i can help any. I just did this less than a month ago but my motor and k-member was out of the car. I'd suggest just pulling out one motor mount at a time and replacing it. You'll have to drill out or grind off the rivets on the mount bracket to get it apart and put the new mount in place. You then use the bolts in place of the rivets to help suck it together. I believe the mount with the part number ENS-3-1127G is for the drivers side. You may have to trim the corners off the mounts because sometimes the are too big and won't let you get your bolts in. They cut really easy though, a pocket knife makes short work of them.

I'd suggest getting the tranny one as well, also make sure you clean the hole out on the mount. Sometimes the poly material can get in the hole when they make the mount and it can be very difficult to get the bolt through with the stuff in there. I just drilled out the hole that motor mount bolt goes through.

Re: anyone who has changed motor mounts...

thanks guys, im sure it will be much easier to understand once im looking at it. one more thing tho, i still dont understand how the mount bolts on. so the smaller one goes on the drivers side and this one gets the bolts? there is obviously no place to put bolts through the mount itself, is there two peices that come out on the drivers side and clamp the mount in then you bolt the whole unit in? ive never looked at the mounts, only thing im going off of is the mounts that i just bought.

Here is a pic that might explain it better.

You drill out the rivets on the old mount and remove the rubber piece and then stick your new polymount in between the two steel brackets and bolt it back together.

To answer your question about which side is which, the smaller mount goes on the driver side and the larger on the passenger side, but it will be pretty self-explanatory once you start. I also recommend trimming the courners off of the larger mounts to make room for the bolts (you'll see). Good luck!

Pay close attention to which way the mount is installed in the car and which way the mount comes out of the clamshell so when you go to put it back you don't flip it around. Do one side at a time. Yeah, you'll want to trim a little bit off the corners of the bigger mount when you go to reinstall it. You'll find out what we're talking about.

Re: anyone who has changed motor mounts...

It took me all day to do my mounts alone. The long tube install took me about a week due to unforseen problems. Its a lot of work but not hard. Good luck.

Re: anyone who has changed motor mounts...

If you're really, really, really lucky you might be back up and running. But there is always something that you don't expect so I would give myself more time to do it right. Do you have any type of heat wrap to put around close wiring and the fuel lines and brake lines on the driver's side. The y-pipe will be right next to the lines. You'll want to go through several heating cycles and header bolt retightening before really getting on it too or you might blow out a gasket.

Re: anyone who has changed motor mounts...

i got the stage 8 bolts and fel pro gaskets for headers and collectors. only thing that really sucks is the y-pipe isnt here yet and i wont have it until prolly next week. im thinking about putting on some old collectors extensions and mufflers my dad had on his 69 camaro just for the time being, but idk. its gonna suck having to wait but o well. ill be sure to watch out for those fuel/brake lines. thanks for the tip. anything else that really helps out knowing ahead of time when doing this job?

Re: anyone who has changed motor mounts...

anyone have a clue on how to get the passenger side pin out? theres a bunch of hard lines RIGHT in front of it and looking at it, it seems pretty much impossible to pull the bolt out the front, which is the only way it will come out. im in the middle of the job so i need some urgent help. thanks
