anyone using wilwood kits from summit?

I have seen them for a while in the catalog. PN1406743 for the front, and 1406744 for the rear. Back in November of 2001, i purchased a fr and rr kit from www.aerospacetechnologies.com. The kit is beautiful. The aesthetics are top notch, performance is great, and the weight savings are awesome. But i had to eliminate the ebrake, and i get some pad/rotor noise. No ebrake is scary. i wanna switch up, and was wondering about this kit, and if any of you guys sprung for this kit. I appreciate your feedback.

I do have one pic for now. The car is in post op at the bottom of NJ. I expect it back somewhere around the end of the week. I can have much more detailed pics then. let me know if you would like me to send it to you. I guess we are the only ones intereted in this wilwood package. Thanks.

I've heard that this kit works awesome on track. I definitely plan to do it someday but have been busy modding my C5. ANd like you said, you get a parking brake with the rear kit.

The other nice thing about Wilwood calipers is that you have a huge selection of pad compounds and manufacturers to choose from. PFC, Porterfield and Hawk all make pads for these calipers.

summit and jegs have the best prices, but i talked to these guys http://www.precisionbrakescompany.co...amaro_hd6.html and they will let you swap out the pads the normally come with them "D compound" i believe for any around the same price... I was gunna get the "Q" or the "T" for there exelent all around stoppiung and "extememly" low dust and sound qualitys...

Just gotta get that money there...

Hey dynomight, you can email the pics to me when you get ur car back if you want.
I know they stop well, but for the price i want the cosmetic side too.

i wonder if i can "upgrage" to blank rotors?

what rotors do you use with them after those are shot?

I think the C5 brake upgrade is prob your best bet as far as money goes though

anyone have this and care to comment?

You can order the wilwoods with Regular solid rotors, Slotted and drilled, Or if you ask, they do have a just slotted rotor.

The C5 kit would stop great, probally comparable to the wilwood, but you dont get the other benifits.

With the will woods you lose about 40 # just front the front brakes.
The pads slip out of the top of the caliper to make pad changes super easy, superquick.
And also they just look beter(If you spening this much on brakes they better look good)

how much is this kit?
how much does it save over LS1/C5
Where is the weight savings comeing from predominantly

40 lbs off the front end and powerful brakes sound almost as sexy as a chimp in a dress

From most place you will find the Regular rotors kit going for $1150 ish and the drilling kit going for $1280 ish.

Im not sure where the weight savings is comeing from but, i know it has the 2 peice rotors that are normally alot lighter, And i've heard the calipers are just amazingly light. They are twice as big and wiegh less then 5 LBS.

Im forget were i read that figure on the amout of weight saved, but i am sure that would over the C5 and Ls1 brakes.

My friend Matt has had his for several months now and I can vouch for the performance of these things. They will put you into the windshield at any speed, even way into the triple digits. Originally they came with E compound but they did have sort of a howl to them, so he went with Q. He is going back to E, since Q, while quiet and low dust, tends to outgas and stink quite a bit. He has never gotten the E's to fade though.

My kit arrives from LGMotorsports tomorrow or Monday... can't wait

I contacted wilwood, and they said they dont make a rear kit for 12 bolt c-clip eliminators. Has anyone tried going against the rules? I would love to get my ebrake back. Thanks again for your help.

Hey dynomight,

Not to hijack your thread, but is your SS white? I saw JPR in your sig, and put two and two together. If the one I'm thinking of is yours, that thing is friggin sweet!!! Joe was telling me about it, and I did get to hear it once too. Dayum!!!! He's doing a head/cam on my car, and I'm thinking about going with him for a 383/396 when the time comes.

Yes, arctic white. Thanks for the compliments. Much appreciated after the cash i spent. But it is a ripper. It was gone so long i forgot how to drive the f'er! A couple of tweaks here and there, and he'll be perfect. In a couple of weeks, i am gonna meet up with joe and B. Herter for a dyno session to re-confirm the numbers. Keep you posted. Good luck with yours, small world (even on the internet). I was just at his shop last weekend, was your car there? Keep me posted on your project, take care.....

Yeah, mine's been there since June third. Joe just called me actually, and the SVO 30# injectors (last puzzle piece we've been waiting on) are getting in today, and we're dynotuning next week. My car is the black (well, semi-black) 93 Trans Am that makes a dang good impression of a 97. You can't miss it. It's the one with the freaking crunch in the rear right side of the hood and the badly faded tops of the fenders and a bra on the front. New paint to follow this buildup and the 12 bolt.

Joe fired up your car for me when he was telling me about it, and that thing is nasty sounding with that blower. Not gonna sneak up on anyone with it, that's for sure. What kind of power are you expecting out of it?
