Anyone using the new Edelbrock heads yet
The stock cams are so whimpy.
I have a friend with an m6 car, stock cam, longtubes, program, 373s, and ported heads flowing around the numbers mentioned above, about same intake, a little less on the exhaust.
He runs 12.5's, at 109 on slicks. Car dynoed 330 rwhp.
Not really all that impressive. You need the lift and duration of a cam to get the power. On desktop dyno, with his set up, we gained about 125 fwhp by simply adding a cam. The cam is being installed this week sometime, new track numbers to follow. No reason he shouldnt be all over the the mid-high 11s with cam, and mid-lower 11s with the new rear and gears (430 9 inch).

Personally Im not that exited unless theyre priced very good. Ive been told by many professional old shcool head porters that edelbrock castings are not very good. They claim edelbrock makes a great casting to get the flow #'s, and the mass produced product that the customer gets fails to come close to those #'s. I was told if I ever bought a set, that they should be cleaned up prior to installation before they would perform well. AFR on the other hand recieved praise from the same people. They claim AFR's are the best on the market for any application, and are very high quality.
Edelbrock was the same way about big block mopar heads. They talked about releasing them and took much longer than expected. They were advertised to flow 292 on the intake side, can't remember exhaust side. Anyways most flow right around 280-285 tops. Pretty close! I know of tons of people running these stock out of the box(with better springs) on 440s and run high 10s. Considering good ported stock heads are around 1000, and these heads flowed just as wekk and alum for 1300, they are hard to beat. Now on the small block mopars, they need work stock, I guess they needs a min of being cleaned up, but are pretty good also.
Well my thinking was that i wouldnt install just the stock castings. If im putting money into an aftermarket head, i will end up putting another $1500 into for porting and parts. I want some BAD heads
MY goal is to spend about 2000k total on the heads. So i will need to pick up some bare used AFRs or something.
I read over on the Imp SS board that someone had an email from edelbrock saying release was expected in 6-8 weeks, at a price of 572, per head.
I dont know if that was bare or complete. If it was complete, these are a screaming deal, if bare, i can get the AFRs for that....

Look at their other heads this size (performer rpm, etec) and I'd expect more like
.100 72/61
.200 134/105
.300 188/140
.400 224/160
.500 233/172
.600 233/179
(Thats what they have for the rpm's)
Most of their complete heads cost $6-700 each too.
I don't know where the other numbers came from but if their that good I'll be in line to get them
