Anyone using 918's and spining to 7,000+

The guy building my motor said the beehives can't spin pass 6500rpms without floating the valves. Does anyone have any experiance with this.
Thanks guys.

That sounds like a vague BS statement to me. Why would Lloyd and Bret include them in the LE3 package if they can't support 6,500+ RPM's?

Exactly...Is he saying Beehives in general? At the pressures they are being installed at? What is his spring choice?

What cam are the 918s going with? After a broad statement like what your mechanic made I would question if you really think youv'e got the right person for the job.

Depends on the rest of the valvetrain setup.... pretty vauge statement to say they can't do more than 6,000rpm IF you don't know what all is working together to get that.

Who in Houston is building your engine? Some of the older builders haven't really caught on to the new fangled stuff.

When I brought down a set of LS6 springs to a locally known guy he was amazed. Mostly because we were able to fit 'em in a 2.4 S-10 engine.

Owen at Advanced Racing Dynamics, I like him a lot. He's taking a lot of time with me to teach me about how to setup springs and talk about his experiances. He's a really stand up guy. How many engine builders do you know that will give you a one year warranty (no matter how much I race it) on a 7000+ 355 w/ a custom tad more aggresive LE3?!?

Got me how he's going to get a heavier spring with the same seated pressure to perform the same as a beehive on the same lobes. Got me? Plus throw in $300 for Ti retainers? dam.

This place?

Small ain't always bad... it's the quality and knowledge that count. Seen way to many small "podunk" shops where guys have national record cars.

Yep-- Turned in the driveway, drove past the house and in the back was the car I had come to see. Last years USAC sprint car championship winning car,on dirt and pavement, in a 2 car garage stacked to the ceiling with all kind of goodies. In back of the shop was the tow rig with just as many goodies. Enough spares to build a complete car+ the one racing.
You would have never driven by that house and thought anything about sprint cars.

Yes that's the place but I think they moved since then, b/c the address is a little different and the # is too.

Your right bret, I called erson (can't remember the guys name) and they agreed w/ you that the 918's would be perfect!!! He was talking so fast I could bearly keep up w/ him. He was doing a whole bunch of calculations and I was just trying to write down the info. as fast as I could. This is what he gave me.
Install height: 1.750
On seat: 145lbs.
Nose pressure: 331lbs.
& I forgot how much clearance he said I had but it was good to something thousands.

Thanks again Bret! You da man!
