After looking into pulley's alot lately, it seems ASP are the only way to go. Otherwise your wasting time and money. I cant say much about it, but I am also interesting in what folks have to say about it. I think your headed in the right direction though.

i've never even considered buying an underdrive pulley at all until i ran across this because it is a balanced pulley not just some machined piece of aluminum that might gain me 3hp

Exactly, its a replacement part not a "piggy back" I wish I knew the ideal %'s for these cause if I did, I'd already have one. It seems there are 4 steps for the LT1.

23% crank
23% crank and 15% alt
34% crank
34% crank and 15% alt

I am assuming more crank % the better, but it would also mean less power to accessories. That is where the alt % comes in. But I dont know at what point your battery begins to drain or you start hurting your accessories. I did some searches too and didnt turn up much on %'s. Good luck. I wouldnt mind knowing a bit more about them.

Re: anyone use this underdrive pulley? (ASP Harmonic)

i'm sure an e-mail to ASP would answer the questions
i'm not too worried about the percent tho
i just want a nice aftermarket piece (that doesnt cost $350 and wont cause issues on very cold days) too replace the stock pulley that has the rubber insert working its way out

plus no stereo or AC for me on the car, only power steering and Alt.

its on my list
i just wanted some feedback from people who have it, if there is any on here

I have it...Good pulley for the price. If spinning the engine above 7K i would probably go with the ATI damper.

What percent do you have and how does it do accessory wise? Notice any gain?

MarkyMark has one. He went with both the underdrive and the overdrive, but with the alt pulley, his battery drained quick. He sold me the overdrive pulley and I will be getting the crank pulley too. (I was always against pulleys, but I decided to give these a try) Should work well with my 900/950 idle. Of course, I'll do a before and after dyno.

I've got the crank pulley in the max underdrive. Works great, nice fit, pretty piece. Good price too. No battery problems with a high idle.

I think ASP has the break even idle speeds on their site. Maybe rev the car a bit if your idle is to low at a stop. Although you might get Aunt Nancy in a Buick trying to stoplight race you doing that.

I just have the crank pulley and i believe its the 23%. Not sure how much difference it made because i did this with my H/C install. Looks nice though

Brandon

P.S.- Charging is a little lower for me than i had planned on. May have to get the overdrive as well.

Re: anyone use this underdrive pulley? (ASP Harmonic)

yea madwolf is correct, the 23% underdriven crank pulley along with the 15% alternator pulley was giving me some electrical problems.....although higher idle rpms or a bigger alternator should solve that. As far as the different underdrive percentages go......I will explain.

23% crank (Direct balancer replacement)
23% crank and 15% alt (Same as above, but comes with a 15% underdriven alternator pulley)

34% crank (as far as I know it is a piggy back style, and not a balancer replacement)

34% crank and 15% alt (same as above with alternator pulley)

Another thing to note is that the balancer replacement one (23%) is also lighter, which means less rotating mass on the crank. Overall I am very pleased with it and would reccomend it as a worthwhile mod to do.

Here is a review (install) another member wrote awhile back which should be very helpful ASP PULLEY REVIEW

Dustin - if your looking for an underdrive then Jason has one for you. It's not the piggy back style - balancer/underdrive pulley. Shoot him a PM.

I thought the 15% was overdriven to account for any charging issues Could be wrong though

Re: anyone use this underdrive pulley? (ASP Harmonic)

no, its underdriven. I only had my electrical issues when the 15% alternator pulley was on.......if it was overdriven it would have helped my charging, not hurt it.
