Anyone use the rear brake caliper shim to stop the squeak???
Just wondering if any one has tried it? I got the GM part number from a search (26034667) but found no one that has done it. I'm just tired of my car sounding like an old clunker when I drive over brick pavers or the little raised reflectors in the road...stuff like that.
I've heard of techs. that have used the shim to stop a grinding or squealing noise from the rear brakes. Are you sure this is your noise? Early 4th gen. F-bodys had a condition called "loose lumbar" noise that was actually the rear springs knocking around in the spring pockets. The best description was it sounded like you were running over 2x4's, and mostly happened on small chatter bumps or railroad tracks. There is an insulator that GM made that fits into the pocket that corrects this. Your dealer should be able to find the part # for you. I don't know if this went into production in the later years. Good luck.
Thanks for the replies guys. The noise I have is a high pitch squeak and the thing is, when I press on the brakes it either goes away or lessens. One reason I think its my rear calipers is, a while back I saw a post on this and a guy said that its the pads shaking in the calipers. He mentioned putting some grease on the edges of the metal on the pad (not the pad itself) where it contacts the caliper. I tried this and it was gone for a while. Only problem is once the grease wears out, the squeak is back.
