Anyone use a dye + UV light to track down oil leak?
For the life of me I cant seem to find where the oil leak is coming from. Anyone ever use a oil dye w/UV light to find a leak? Also, what brand do you recommend?

It leaks on the starter and drips on the passenger y-pipe. Also, on the drivers side it leaks on oil filter and all over the oil pan and a bit on the ground.
Things that i've replaced intake manifold gasket, although the intake manifold seems dry. Also, replaced rear main seal, and oil cooler gasket. Only thing I havent tried is replacing the LT4 composite valve cover gaskets because i dont feel or see any traces of oil coming from the valve covers.

could it be from the oil pan gasket itself? A pluggesd PCV system or worn rings(overwhelming PCV system) can push oil past this gasket. spraying bottom of engine down with B12 Chemtool carb cleaner, drive the car a few miles at speed and come back and examine where the oil is coming from.

I had an oil leak that I could not figure out for the life of me. I did the dye and UV light to see where it was and figured out that it was coming from the front main seal and oil pan lip. It turned out that there was a little bend in the lip on my oil pan. Had to buy a new one. Check out the lip on your oil pan. Might be coming from there.

You need no stinkin' dye. Oil is oil. Cover your opticrap and clean the engine until there is no oil anywhere. Place "newprint" because it shows up best on the floor. Pull the fan fuse so it doesn't blow the oil anywhere and see where the oil drops from.
Play detective. I will see if I can find my oil consumption site and post it in a minute or so.

Just put the dye in the oil, run the car a little, then shut it off. Jack the car up and take the uv light and glasses and find where the dye is showing up. There is your leak. Good luck.
P.S. The dye won't hurt your internals at all.
